IF YOU REMEMBER TIM RUSSERT YOU REMEMBER "IF IT'S SUNDAY, IT'S MEET THE PRESS."
WELL GROWING UP I DREADED SUNDAYS... I DIDN'T MIND GOING TO MASS, BUT I DID MIND GOING TO 7AM MASS. I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE HAD TO GO TO MASS BEFORE THE SUN WAS UP WHEN ALL MY FRIENDS WENT TO 9AM MASS OR 10:30 MASS. WELL, NOW BEING "IN THE BUSINESS" I UNDERSTAND THAT MY FATHER WORKED ALL DAY SUNDAY AND 7AM WAS THE ONLY TIME WE COULD GO AS A FAMILY. THE BEST PART OF GOING TO MASS AT 7AM WAS RIDING WITH DAN (MY GRANDFATHER) TO MCDONALD'S AFTER TO GET BREAKFAST. HE ALWAYS HAS HAD A NICE CAR THAT SMELLED LIKE CIGARS AND RODE SMOOTH EVEN THOUGH WE TOOK 7TH STREET WHICH WAS ALL BRICK. AS SOON AS WE GOT HOME FROM BREAKFAST I HAD TO DO HOMEWORK. WHICH MEANT HAVING TO SIT AT OUR DINING ROOM TABLE FOR AN HOUR OR SO AND SUFFER THROUGH SUNDAY STUDIES. I WAS USUALLY DONE BY 10AM DEPENDING WHETHER OR NOT I HAD A TUDOR COMING OVER TO HELP WITH SOCIAL STUDIES OR MATH. I HAD ONE TUTOR THAT WAS PRETTY AND CHEWED WINTERGREEN GUM (I DON'T THINK I EXCELLED IN WHATEVER SHE WAS TEACHING ME).
POINT BEING... I KNEW THE WEEKEND WAS DRAWING TO AN END WHEN PAT AND CAROL SETTLED DOWN TO WATCH 60 MINUTES ON SUNDAY EVENING. I HATED THAT STOP WATCH TICKING WHEN THE SHOW STARTED. TO THEM IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE PROGRAM...TO ME, IT WAS THE COUNT DOWN TO THE END OF A WEEKEND.
BEST THING THAT CAME OUT OF A SUNDAY EVENING WAS CAROL (MY MOTHER) FIXING ME A BOWL OF CONN'S PLAIN WAVY POTATO CHIPS BEFORE I WENT TO BED. CONN'S ARE STILL A FIXTURE IN MY MOTHER'S PANTRY TO THIS DAY.
TODAY: I HAD A GREAT SUNDAY. SHOWED HOMES TO A FAMILY THAT I REALLY ENJOY WORKING WITH, WENT TO PJ & KEL'S AND WATCHED A MOVIE AND WATCHED THEIR WONDERFUL KIDS RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES, HAD DINNER WITH MY WIFE, THEN SETTLED DOWN TO WATCH 60 MINUTES... JILL JUST HANDED ME A BROWNIE OUT OF THE OVEN.
IT IS NICE BEING TAKEN CARE OF ON SUNDAYS. I COULD DO WITHOUT THE STOPWATCH.
